SUMMARY:Halloween Parade & Dance Party
DESCRIPTION:Halloween brings excitement for many of our students…and staff! We are happy to announce that we will once again hold our traditional Halloween Parade and Dance Party on Friday October 31st. \n\nClasses will begin making their way out to the yard at 9:00 a.m.\nStudents will follow a path around the school yard and meet at a designated area for the dance party\, complete with Halloween music!\nParents and caregivers are warmly invited to attend! Please view the parade and dance party from the ramp/designated area in the yard.\n\nIf your child chooses to wear a costume\, please keep the following guidelines in mind to ensure a safe\, comfortable\, and respectful day for everyone: \n\nMovement: Costumes must be easy for your child to independently manage throughout the day. They should be able to sit\, walk\, play\, and use the bathroom without staff assistance. Please ensure costumes are easy to take on and off.\nMasks: Masks that cover the full face are not permitted for the full school day. They can be put on momentarily for the parade/dance party\, but must be removed and put away immediately afterward. This ensures safety and clear communication in class.\nAccessories: For safety and to prevent loss\, please do not send any replica weapons or unnecessary accessories (props\, etc.) to school as part of a costume\nCulture is Not a Costume: Costumes should be fun\, creative\, and respectful of all people. Please avoid any attire that would demean\, stereotype\, appropriate\, or mock different races\, genders\, religions\, or cultures. We encourage you to watch this short video with your child for a clear explanation: ‘My Culture is Not a Costume’\n\nWe recognize that not all students and families choose to participate. There will be an alternate supervised space for anyone requesting it.

SUMMARY:Holiday Hampers 2019
DESCRIPTION:Every year before the December holidays\, TDSB social workers provide us with information on families in our community in need of support. Your child’s class has been paired with a family and asked to collect donations from their wish list.  There will be a hamper for donations in each classroom\, as well as a check list to avoid duplication. Items do not need to be wrapped but students are encouraged to decorate the hampers! \nThis is a wonderful opportunity to teach our kids about giving during the holiday season\, and we encourage parents to really involve their children in a discussion around the family they’ll be supporting\, their needs\, and how much of an impact their action of helping and giving back will make. \nSome items traditionally requested include toys\, clothes (only new clothing items please!)\, and gift certificates. If you have any items to donate that would suit children from a different age group than your child’s class has been assigned\, please find an appropriate family from the profiles below and drop your items in the corresponding classroom. \nThis year we will be collecting donations of wish list items until Monday December 9th. TDSB Social Workers deliver the holiday hampers in person to the families just before the school break in December. The families are extremely grateful for the hampers and the items help brighten their holiday. \nIf you have any questions\, please don’t hesitate to contact Anne Feehely or Sasha Sandler. \nAll family profiles and classroom assignments are listed below.\nThank you in advance for your generosity! \n  \n\n\n\nENGLISH CLASSROOMS\nFRENCH CLASSROOMS\n\n\nJK A Room 12 Ms Demos – Family #13\nSK Room 15 Mme Oliveira – Family #14\n\n\nJK B Room 15 Ms Ferrailoi – Family #7\nGrade 1 Room 26 Mme Quach – Family #25\n\n\nSK Room 9 Ms Warden – Family #22\nGrade 1/2 Room 25 Mme Cosarba – Family #24\n\n\nGrade 1 A Room 22 Ms Pulver – Family #18\nGrade 2 Room 20 Mme Gazzaruso – Family #9\n\n\nGrade 1 B Room 23 Ms Sarmiento – Family #23\nGrade 3 A Room 39 Mme Hui – Family #11\n\n\nGrade 2 A Room 24 Ms Harris – Family #21\nGrade 3 B Room 35 M Pare – Family #6\n\n\nGrade 2 B Room 10 Ms Fox – Family #17\nGrade 4 Room 36 Mme Marafioti – Family #3\n\n\nGrade 2/3 Room 28 Ms Hazan – Family #20\nGrade 5 Room 34 Mme El-Sayed – Family #12\n\n\nGrade 3 A Room 37 Ms Bacon – Family #8\nGrade 6 Room 32 Mme Tyrie – Family #19\n\n\nGrade 3 B Room 21 Ms Merenda – Family #1\n\n\nGrade 4 Room 41 Ms Nadler – Family #16\n\n\nGrade 4/5 Room 38 Mr Knight – Family #2\n\n\nGrade 5 Room 40 Ms Foord – Family #10\n\n\nGrade 6 A Room 33 Ms Severino – Family #15\n\n\nGrade 6 B Room 30 Mr MacDonald – Family #4\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Transform TO
DESCRIPTION:Come out and provide your input into TransformTO’s Climate Action Strategy \nThe Brown School Eco Club and Parent Council invite you to attend a public meeting to provide input to inform the TransformTO Implementation Plan to 2023. \nThis meeting will take place in the library of Brown Junior Public School from 7:00-9:00pm. Please enter the school through the front doors and use the central staircase to reach the second floor where the library is located. \nWe recommend that you review the information to be discussed in advance of the event\, and come prepared to share your ideas. The conversation guide for the event can be found here: www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/974b-TTO-Conversation-Guide-V3.pdf. \nClick here to register for free! \n\nAbout this event: \nIn 2017\, Toronto City Council unanimously voted to pass TransformTO\, the City’s climate action strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent of 1990 levels by 2050. To reach this target\, Toronto needs to make transformative changes to the ways we travel\, build\, use energy\, and manage waste— and the City needs your input on the next set of short-term climate actions from 2021-2023 that will support those transformations. \nThe TransformTO Implementation Plan will be presented to City Council in early 2020. The actions in the Implementation Plan aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and integrate climate resilience while maximizing benefits to the community. \nJoin us to give input on what climate action priorities should be included in the TransformTO Implementation Plan to 2023 to support the City in reaching its 2050 target. To learn more about TransformTO\, visit www.toronto.ca/transformto. \nLight refreshments will be provided. In light of the eco-centric theme of this event\, we ask that you please bring your own reusable beverage and snack containers.
