Every year at the end of November, TDSB social workers provide us with information on families in our community in need of support. These families are often struggling to provide even the basic necessities like food and warm clothing and the hampers that we put together make a huge impact on their holiday season.
Each classroom is paired with a family and asked to collect donations from their wish list, such as toys, clothing and gift certificates. There will be hampers in each classroom for donations (new items only please!) and gift certificates can be dropped off to the office. We will be collecting items until Friday Dec 16th.
This is a wonderful opportunity to teach our kids about giving back during the holiday season, and we encourage parents to really involve their children in a discussion around the family they’ll be supporting, their needs, and how much of a positive impact their actions can make.

TDSB Social Workers deliver the donations in person to each family just before the school break in December. The families are extremely grateful for your contributions and the items help brighten their holiday. Here’s what some of the social workers had to say:
“You cannot see how impactful and meaningful your gifts are to our families; how often they are the only gifts some families receive, or see how overcome parents are with relief and gratitude. I am so thankful for your generosity and thoughtfulness as I joyously deliver on your behalf”.
“The Holiday Hamper received by one family made the difference between being able to buy extra food for their Holidays (such as a turkey) and not having anything special to eat. When I delivered the Holiday Hamper to this family the father had tears in his eyes and said that he would one day give back when he was able to work again.”
“One family told me that they were in awe with the beautiful and thoughtful gifts that were provided to them through the Holiday Hamper initiative. The mother told me that it touched her heart to know that people who do not even know her could show such care for other human beings”.
Any questions? Please visit the FAQ, contact your class parent or email Laura Robinson.
The pandemic has been especially hard on many of these families and they need your support more than ever. Thank you in advance for your amazing generosity!
