ECO

Brown is a certified ECO SCHOOL!

Eco Club at Brown Junior Public School is a group of students led by teachers Ms. Bacon and Mme. Hui. The “Core Cucumbers” are a group of students ranging from Grades 1 – 6 who meet once a week at lunchtime to develop leadership skills, to help inform their peers and the Brown community about the importance of the environment and what we can all do to contribute to a healthier planet. School administration, “Teaching Turnips”, caretakers, and parents round out the ECO Team to help support the children’s initiatives.

At ECO Club meetings, we discuss environmental issues they see at the school and problem solve so they can make Brown more ECO friendly.

The school receives points toward a certification by ECO SCHOOLS.
Brown currently has Silver status that we are aiming to improve. There are two parent representatives, Kelly Kirkpatrick and Stella Ball who help to liaise between our ECO Club student initiatives, ECO teachers and the Brown Parent Council.

The goals of ECO Team are to foster teamwork, to reduce waste at the school and in the community, have awareness about bigger picture issues that effect all of us, be leaders when it comes to green issues and impact positive change for our future.
